What my Customers say in their Reviews: Rome by Night photo tour - two enthusiastic thumbs up! I thought I knew what to expect, having previously taken a daylong photo tour of Umbria with Giulio D'Ercole. But even that fabulous experience didn't prepare me for his "Rome at Night" photo tour a few days later! I was relatively new to nighttime photography, and Giulio was extremely patient with me - giving me great tips on how best to achieve autofocus in dim light, in addition to compositional tips. (And scrupulously checking to verify my images were tack sharp!). And of course he knew EXACTLY the best places to capture Rome's beauty at night! But his tour was far more than just this. Giulio (I feel as if we're on a first-name basis) is an amazing fount of knowledge of All Things Rome, from its rich history to its culture. For this reason alone, my husband (a non-photographer) enjoyed the tour every bit as much as I did. And - although Giulio promises he'll cut your tour short if you get tired, I can assure you that can never happen, so full is he of infectious enthusiasm. I couldn't believe the hour when we finally called it a night! Giulio also took extraordinary pains to make sure we saw everything possible on our tour. We unfortunately missed our train from Florence to Rome; it was to have arrived shortly before our tour was to begin, so we were forced to start things late. No problem - Giulio bent himself over backwards to make sure we still got EVERYTHING in! When I apologized for the chaos we'd caused him, he replied "I spent 30 years in production: there's no such thing as chaos!". I'd been to St. Peter's Square (during the daytime) on our last trip to Rome two years previously. But somehow I'd missed the 2019 sculpture "Angels Unawares" - the first piece of art (commissioned by the late Pope Francis) installed in St. Peter's Square in over 400 years. It depicts the plight of migrants, a topic about which Pope Francis cared deeply. I found it so moving that I dragged my sister (with whom we were staying) to see it the next night; it brought her to tears. Don't, whatever you do, miss it, especially at night. Besides St. Peter's Square, we also explored some of the side streets in the area, Castel Sant' Angelo, Piazza Navona (you MUST see the fountains there at night, when the crowds have dissipated!), the Roman Forum, and the Colosseum. Every moment of our tour was filled with his explanation of the history of Rome and the symbolism of all of the structures. I now see them all with a fresh set of eyes. (Why don't the tour books include these details?). Rome at night is not at all the same as Rome during the daytime. Its beauty and peace are best appreciated without all of the daytime crowds. I've returned with a portfolio of images from my two tours with Giulio on this trip to Italy that will stay with me for a lifetime. My only regret is that I can't give his tours ten stars! On all counts - overall rating, value, fun factor, and WOW factor - it was off the charts! Lynn Roberts By far the BEST tour in Italy! I wish I could give this tour with Giulio ten stars. Everything was perfect! His attention to every single detail was evident from his first communications even before finally booking. He was so warm and friendly and answered all my questions in detail. We had many exchanges in email and over the phone prior to booking so I felt very safe and comfortable with every aspect. From the minute you meet Giulio you will feel like you have reunited with a long lost friend. His love and joy for Rome (we did the night tour of Rome) are contagious. My advice would be to skip all the other tours and let Giulio be your guide. He has a vast knowledge of both photography and the history of his city and can cater his tours your level of experience. He spent time with my daughter who is a beginner photographer and was patient and gave her so much helpful instruction. He was even able to give me pointers in using my iPhone. He has an eye for detail and experience all over the world. He is kind, funny, full of joy, and has a vast knowledge of the world, history, and photography. You will be blessed to meet him and learn from him. We were in Italy for 11 days and our five hours with him was our very favorite part and our most memorable!! I can not say enough good things about Giulio. He leaves you better! He is an extraordinary man and an amazing talent!! Thank you Giulio! We will never forget you. This was the highlight of my time in Rome!! Not only was Giulio entertaining, he was also very knowledgeable in the history of Rome. We started at Castel Sant’Angelo, then over to Saint Peter’s Basilica, as well as a few other stops, then culminated at the Colosseum. What fantastic sights at night. He was even kind enough to drop us back at our hotel afterwards. I highly recommend this tour and will surely contact him for another tour in Italy, if I am ever lucky enough to make it back. My two kids (ages 17 and 21) were the photographers - both fairly novice-level in photography. Giulio was an excellent teacher, and he was able to provide photography and a tour in bite-size, memorable pieces. The photos they took are fantastic. I also was able to tag-along as a non-photographer, and learned much about Rome (and a little about photo composition). I highly recommend this tour! We kept contact regarding details prior our photo tours. I was very satisfied with Giulio`s commitment, excellent planning, services. I took opportunity to book another tour Villa Borghese tour. It was an amazing and educational tour. Giulio is excellent, professional photograph and guide provide safe, interesting, fun, awesome, tour! My boyfriend is an amateur photograph and wanted to immerse himself shoot in manual mode. Giulio was exceptional teacher, shared tips in photography. He explained shooting principles and for each shot he provided guidance, advice for positioning and settings. After the night tour with Giulio, my boyfriend said: from now I will shoot in manual mode, I have learned so much from Giulio. Previously he was shooting in P mode with exposure compensation in camera. Giulio gave attention and patience to all tour's participant and was very helpful in pointing out different photo perspectives along with technical tips.
