Unique Street Photography Workshop by a Pro

Would you like to master the art of street photography, freezing life’s fleeting moments in powerful, storytelling images? Then join me on an immersive workshop that for the past ten years, has collected only five star reviews.

I’ll guide you through the vibrant morning markets, winding cobblestone streets, and lively squares and you will realize how life in Rome can be slow and sweet as much as vibrant and fast. Always intriguing!

Now, keep in mind Street photography is challenging, it’s a bet, a gamble, a surprise…. but if you have fun in putting your skills on the line, this is one of the most rewarding tour you can have.

So, since this is my favorite style, don’t worry, I will lead you through it with my contagious enthusiasm, and together we'll walk through morning markets, narrow streets, and the beautiful squares of Rome, where life happens.

As the city wakes up old women open their windows to the new day, small shops with charming window sets are about to start business, while nuns and priests walk downtown to go to their seminaries or to the Vatican City, you’ll acquire the ability to anticipate the unexpected, compose with confidence,  capture Rome heartbeat, lights and shadows.

Here is what you will learn or fine tune:

  • First of all, you will overcome the fear or hesitation to photograph strangers by understanding how to approach them

  • Then you will understand the does and don'ts of street photography.

  • How to capture the most interesting moments of life as it unfolds.

  • Its different techniques and use of lenses.

  • The use of natural light, and how to menage dynamic range.

  • Manual mode settings: ISO control, white balance, aperture, and shutter speed.

  • Composition: framing compelling shots using leading lines, symmetry, foreground interest, and layering.

Android and iPhone users are also welcome. And if you don't have a professional camera, but you would like to shoot with one, I have two fully equipped Nikon sets (D850 and D600).

What my Customers say in their Reviews: Awesome Street Photography Tour of Rome! Incredible! Had an amazing time with Giulio. He was very knowledgeable about photography and also the history of Rome. He immediately helped me dial in my camera settings. Walking through Rome, we hit many different locations and he was able to show some different prospective on how to photograph them. Additionally, he was able to provide and help demonstrate how to use different techniques to take certain shots. From using shadows, to shooting through ally ways, to generating creative motion blur. He also helped with composition and most of all, showed me how to use light to take more interesting photos. .. All of the new techniques allowed me to take better and more creative photos for the remainder of the trip. As he said "Write with Light". Would recommend to anyone interested in Photography and bettering their skills. Brian Streets of Rome! From the get on, Giulio showed lots of knowledge both of photography and of Rome. I know the city fairly well and he nevertheless managed to show me unknown corners and knew where some of the best action could be, as street photography relies on something happening and being able to capture it, so not the easiest of feats! He knew when to let go so I tried, and when to give feedback to allow for improvements. The conversation in between shots was also extremely pleasant. I definitely recommend him and hopefully I will repeat on a different tour at a later occasion, as he has many different ones! Raimundo Benzal Martinez Wow, wow, wow! Wow, wow, wow our Rome by Day, Street Photography Tour was absolutely incredible! Giulio is fluent in English, patient, and prompt. He is such a kind and professional man. It was so much fun to explore the city of Rome and take photos of the most interesting details, from various perspectives. He helped us get the best shots possible and the photos are just absolutely gorgeous. He made the whole experience stress-free. We hope to return to Italy and explore more of his tours. Tracy Rome Street Photography! Giulio was just fantastic. I wanted to maximize my short time in Rome and have someone to guide me through the key spots and some of the less known streets and locations. We spent 6hrs starting at 5am hitting a few popular sites to get clear shots without the crowds. We then walked the streets and was grateful to receive Giulio’s expert guidance on techniques to capture difficult street shots. He helped me fine tune my settings for multiple scenarios and opened my mind to a different attitude for my photography. Giulio is an expert photographer and it’s clear that he appreciates and studies the expression of people and life. You’ll only be rewarded for selecting Giulio as your guide if you’re visiting Rome, Tuscany, or other areas of Italy. Jamie Rome + Street photography = fun photo tour! I booked the toor a few days before my visit to Rome. Giulio took his time to understand my needs and interests and recommended a version of the tour better suited for me. The tour itself gave me an excuse to bring along my better (and much heavier) camera which begged to be put to use. We started early on on Saturday morning before the heat and tourist waves hit the streets. Giulio is an expert in a labyrinth of Rome streets and took me to places I would hardly go by myself, giving thoughtful advise and hints along the way. He has a 360-degrees view and notices people and things worth photographing. He was happy to move distractions and pretend to be a subject of photo shoot to give an excuse to shoot someone else, was helping to find the best spot for a rustic bike we found along the way, He also discussed a lot of details very useful in street photography. Although we were walking 4 hours straight without rest we had a lot of energy left, so we extended the tour for another hour which gave me a chance to explore more of Rome. We even managed to get in a small private courtyard that even Giulio wasn't able to get into before! Overall this was a great experience. I am used to photographing city streets, but doing this in a company of an expert street photography is just another experience - not only Giulio knew the city and shared his knowledge but he provided inspiration! Alex Join Giulio For a Very Satisfying, Soul-Touching Tour of The Eternal City! "It's the little things, the tiny details, the improbable awesomeness of every, little, damn, thing" -- Anthony Bourdain (on Rome) We have been living and working in the great city of Rome for over two years but will be packing out soon. Our heavy hearts are trying to savor every last moment in the Eternal City. We stumbled upon Mr. Giulio D'Ercole's Rome Photo Fun Tours by happy accident and immediately signed up for his Street Photography Tour. I have a decent beginner's camera but I have always felt self-conscious about taking photos of street life so it has essentially been gathering dust. Giulio coaxed me out of my apprehension almost immediately! We started early in order to capture Roman citizens beginning their day in the warm light of this magnificent city. Every corner revealed a magical element that we seemed to have completely missed during our time here. Giulio is a master photographer with both an artist's and a cinematographer's eye. He is also a proud Roman citizen and possesses a deep appreciation for the city and its history. We learned so much about photography AND history during our 4 hour session. Do not hesitate to sign up for one of Giulio's tours -- he keeps the group number extremely small. The tour was pure value for money in a city often short on quality bargains! I only wished I would have taken this tour two years ago when we first arrived! You will finish your tour spent (we logged in over 10,000 steps), satisfied, and full of memories (and photos! Take a look at few of mine below!) Sincerely, Michael and Dora A perfect tour to see not only the big sites but also the amazing secrets of this wonderful city! After two magnificent tours („Unique Rome Photo Tour from dusk to Dawn“ and „Rome, Churches, Angels & Art Photo Tour“) with Giulio I decided to book a third tour as I spent quite a long time in Rome. So I asked him for a suggestion and it was he „Rome by Day, Street Photography Tour“ he suggested. When I heard it I was at first asking myself - can I do it? Are my abilities good enough? Giulio was very motivating and could convince me to try it. And now I can say 100 % it was the right decision. After each tour I was wondering if the next tour can be better or at least reach the same level tike the recent one. And YES, it is possible. As all my tours were so different it is difficult or even impossible to say which one was the best. Each single tour was on its own way much more than I expected - simply perfect. So concerning this tour Giulio was again a perfect teacher, very patient, good in explaining even details and here especially motivating. He knows his hometown so well that he can show so many small gems, extraordinary places and knows stories about them so that not even a single question remained unanswered. Due to rain he suggested to postbone the tour for two hours which I gratefully accepted. Punctually we met at the time which we agreed on. As I wrote already in my recent reviews I strongly recommend to book a tour (or more like me) with Giulio to everyone who is interested in Rome and in taking photos. You surely won‘t be disappointed and you can spend a couple of hours with a great person and teacher as well as with a great photographer. So to come to an end - Giulio, once again mille grazie!!! Annette Rotgeri Highly recommended for everyone! An exciting experience that I would suggest to anyone, even those who are not expert photographers. Giulio is a professional who offers very useful advice and guides you in street photography, actively directing your shots and suggesting ways to achieve the best results. He assists you on set, helps you define your camera settings, and not least, takes you to both stunning and lesser-known spots in the city. It transforms into a moment not just for taking photos but also for receiving insightful information and interesting tidbits that would likely be overlooked by the average tourist. Very, very enjoyable! Serena Basta Fantastic photo tour! Really fantastic photo tour combining historical sights and street photography! I enjoyed it a lot and took some great pictures. Giulio is a very kind and knowledgeable person, sharing great insights on Rome and its history, hints how to make use of the camera and identifying fantastic photo spots. Highly recommended! Marco G.
