During this seven hour full-immersion tour we will be photographing not only the most famous and spectacular squares, monuments, sculptures, fountains, churches, and charming backstreets downtown Rome, but also those locations no tourist is ever brought to at night, even if they still are in the historic part of the Eternal City and totally safe.
In our itinerary in fact we will go to St. Peter's square, Castel Sant'Angelo, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, the back streets of Rione Parrione, the Jewish Ghetto, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, the Roman Forums, Aventino, Isola Tiberina and many others... as you can see in the rich photo gallery above.

From a technical point of view, what we will focus on will be:

Long exposures, and the use of natural light at night.

Manual mode settings: ISO control, white balance, aperture, and shutter speed.

Composition: Learn to frame compelling shots using leading lines, symmetry, foreground interest, and layering.
Please note that our photo tour will start at the entrance of Castel Sant'Angelo, and, at the end of it, I will bring you back at your accommodation.
Android and iPhone users are also welcome. And if you don't have a professional camera, but you would like to shoot with one, I have two fully equipped Nikon sets (D850 and D600).

Group size: This is a photo tour for small groups. Prices are indicated in the booking widget. Families or small groups traveling together can request a fully private tour. Accompanying non-photographers pay 50% of the fee. You should have a tripod, if you don't I will lent mine for free. If you don't have camera gear, I will rent my Nikon D850 or D600 and lenses (60 euros fee for each set). The participants must come with comfy walking shoes and a bottle of water (that can be refilled at any fountain) In order to cover as many iconic locations as possible, this tour is a combination of walking and driving, with clients' pick up and drop off. The car is my own Renault Clio Stationwagon.
Meeting Point: Our meeting point is at the door/gate of Castel Sant'Angelo, at the pedestrian area between the Castle and the Bridge of Angels. The photos of the meeting point are the last two of the photo gallery above.

Giulio is very personable, courteous, efficient with time, and helpful. Let me start with saying thank you to Giulio for the magnificent photo tour “From dusk to dawn” which I was able to do with him. Already in the first contact via email with him he answered fast, detailed and gentle. He even offered a cheaper tour. And also my several further questions he answered in the same fast and gentle way. Like he was in his mails he was as well during the whole tour. Here he showed additionally big patience with my low experience as I am a beginner and so I was very nervous at the beginning. But he managed that I became more calm. And now I can say that I learned during the 7 hours more than what I knew before. But to be honest, it was more than a photo tour. Apart from showing all these wonderful places he could give so many information and details of places, other topics and of course especially the photography. And he gave these information in a special way so that you won’t forget those information (especially but not only the photographic) information afterwards. And as the tour took 7 hours there was also time to chat and discuss about other topics which I enjoyed very much. In short - a wonderful time which I don’t want to miss and for which I want to say thank you once again. I can strongly recommend everybody who is interested to see Rome in a unique way and who likes taking photos to book one of the tours with Giulio. The Dusk to Dawn Tour is the perfect way to capture Rome’s beauty and take it home with you! Giulio’s tour not only provided an awesome opportunity to capture the sights without the heat or the crowds, but he willingly shared valuable photography tips with me, to ensure my nighttime shots were perfect. Aside from the fact that we had so much in common, Giulio is very kind and accommodating! Though six hours in the middle of the night may sound like a lot of time, I found that we used every second of it setting up for the perfect shot, taking it and moving along to the next sight. In addition to Giulio’s photography expertise, he is a wealth of Roman history knowledge. He did a fantastic job of explaining the history and significance of each of the sites we visited. I found the tour extremely valuable and my photos are gorgeous! I look forward to taking the tour again the next time I’m in the Eternal City!! If you’re on the fence about taking the shorter version of this tour or going with longer one, definitely take the longer tour. It was well worth the time and expense and knowledge gained!
